The Verizon Foundation was honored as a 2008 Visionary Award-winner by the National Council on Economic Education (NCEE) on Thursday, October 30.
At the awards ceremony, held at the St. Regis Hotel in New York, NCEE President and CEO Dr. Robert Duvall said, "Few fit the definition of 'Champion of Economic Empowerment' in as convincing a fashion at this year's four remarkable honorees. Not only do they represent, in powerful ways, why economics matters but they bring it to life on a daily basis while inspiring others to follow their lead."
NCEE is a nationwide network promoting economic literacy for teachers and students. The goal is to help students develop the skills they need to be successful consumers, savers, investors, citizens, members of the workforce and participants in a global economy.
The Verizon Foundation won the award for "funding programs that address the heart of social issues such as literacy, technology education and domestic violence and building partnerships to replicate the most successful programs in communities across the country."
